Anyone ever been in solitary confinement?

I'm talking like an official one in a prison. I'm curious what goes on in there. What happens if you have to go to the bathroom? Do you get 3 meals brought to you? What do you do to p the time? Are you allowed to read? Write? Are there different rules based on the severity of the crime that got you into solitary? Do solitary rules differ prison to prison?
